THE INSPIRING journey

FOUNDER's
story

Tanya, the founder of Our Home Ukraine Foundation, grew up in the small village of Petrovirivka in Southern Ukraine. The close-knit community, steeped in age-old customs, shaped her deeply. Her memories of the village are vivid: the aroma of freshly baked bread, the vibrant wildflowers in the fields, and the soothing rhythm of daily village life. These cherished experiences became even more significant when the full-scale invasion of Ukraine shattered the peace in her homeland. Determined to help, Tanya founded the U.S.-based Our Home Ukraine Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, as well as its Ukrainian counterpart, Our Home Ukraine, to support her fellow Ukrainians during this time of crisis.

HISTORY

The following milestones describe the events leading to the formation of the foundation.

February 24, 2022, marked the first day of a full-scale war in Ukraine. The war caused many to flee their homes, seeking shelter in other parts of the country or abroad. The number of internally displaced people grew to about 14 million, many of whom were women, children, and elderly individuals. Many sought refuge in Odesa, a southern region of Ukraine. Originally from this region, Tanya saw this trend and wanted to help.

In April 2022, Tanya launched an initiative to house IDPs in Odesa and provide them with the necessary tools to rebuild their lives. Together with her team in Chicago and Ukraine, they built two full-service shelters and a kindergarten to temporarily relieve these individuals. This experience inspired Tanya to create her own foundation.

June 2023 marks the official registry of Our Home Ukraine as a charitable organization operating out of Tanya’s hometown of Izmail, Odesa, Ukraine. As Our Home Ukraine continues to expand its operations, its priorities will remain to alleviate human suffering.
