A remarkable fundraising event occurred on May 30, 2023, at the Salt Shed, organized by philanthropists Tanya Polsky, Cari Sacks, and Robin Tebbe. The purpose of the evening was to raise funds for Operation White Stork, a U.S. Veteran-led nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-saving medical aid and support to Ukraine. The event showcased the importance of humanitarian efforts and shed light on the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Salt Shed was transformed into a gathering space for individuals passionate about making a difference and supporting those in need.
The night began with a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie. Guests enjoyed a buffet, cocktails, and engaging conversations. Among the attendees were prominent figures who had the privilege of experiencing the captivating melodies of the Chicago Bandura Ensemble. The ensemble comprises talented Ukrainian musicians skilled in playing the bandura, a Ukrainian folk instrument. The soul-stirring performance set the stage for an evening focused on solidarity and support.
The program officially commenced with the powerful rendition of the Ukrainian national anthem, performed by Marianna Kulikova, a member of the renowned Lyric Opera. Hal Weizman, the MC for the event, introduced the speakers who would provide insight into the war and the critical role of humanitarian aid.
Esteemed speakers included U.S. Marine veteran William McNulty, the head of missions for White Stork, U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman, and Max Cormier, U.S. Army deputy head of operations. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, sharing their firsthand experiences and shedding light on the urgent need for support.
Cormier, who had been involved in delivering supplies to the front lines, emphasized the significance of stopping Russian aggression in Ukraine. He passionately expressed his belief that if Ukraine were to fall, the consequences would extend far beyond its borders. McNulty stressed the vital role of Operation White Stork in providing essential aid directly to those fighting on the front lines. He spoke about the organization’s commitment to saving lives and highlighted the incredible impact of drones in the conflict.
This charitable evening would not have been possible without the dedication and efforts of the Polsky family (Michael & Tanya Polsky), White Stork, and the numerous volunteers devoted to this vital cause.
The event served as a testament to the power of collective action and the impact of philanthropy. It demonstrated that through unity and compassion, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by conflict and strife. This event symbolizes hope, echoing the commitment to support Ukraine and ensure a brighter future for its people.
