FIREFIGHTERS
OHU’s firefighter program prioritizes the needs of Ukrainian firefighters and other first responders. Since 2022, OHU has collected over 200 tons, 27 pallets worth of essential firefighter gear, which has been distributed between two units in Kherson and Kamianets-Podilskyi.
OHU also connects firefighters with educational and advocacy resources. In 2023, we brought four firefighters from Kharkiv to the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, IN, where they collaborated with and learned from U.S.-based firefighters.
Currently, OHU is sponsoring a reconstruction project for a firehouse in Kharkiv.
MAJOR milestones
February 2022: First collection of firefighter equipment/gear began
- Procured 200 tons of PPE and firefighter gear for Kharkiv firefighters/first responders
April 2022: Representatives attended FDIC 2022
April 2023: Sponsored Ukrainian firefighter’s participation at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) Initiative
